Abstract
A revolution in how we connect and interact with the digital realm is rapidly approaching, enabled by the prolific rise of AI and the miniaturization of displays, sensors, and optical systems. In this talk, it will take us on a journey to look into this near future and to examine the challenges and opportunities it presents for the display industry. With the expectations of consumers for launch of small form-factor, lightweight AR devices in the coming years, it is crucial to understand how the components that make up these displays can be scaled for mass production while maintaining performance and functionality. Through this talk, attendees will gain insights into the technical and practical considerations that need to be taken into account when developing scalable components for AR/VR displays. We will discuss the latest advancements in AR display technology and how they can be leveraged to create immersive experiences that meet consumer expectations.
Speaker Bio
Dr. Yun Wang has over fifteen years of display product and research development experience in consumer electronics. Currently, Dr. Wang is the Director of Display Hardware at Meta/Facebook, responsible for driving the innovation, development, and execution of advanced display technologies for wearable AR glass applications. Before that, he led a display panel engineering team at Apple and co-invented the iPhone LTPO TFT backplane technology. He led the iPhone LTPO technology development from incubation, proof-of-concept, and prototype to mass production in the first LTPO iPhone with 10-120Hz adaptive refresh rate display. Before that, Dr. Wang led the engineering team at Intermolecular Inc developing high-mobility IGZO TFT and high-k dielectrics storage capacitors for high PPI LCD applications. Dr. Wang received his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Rutgers and holds over 100 patents and 14 technical papers.
